हिमाचल के विकास, स्वाभिमान और सामाजिक न्याय के लिए समर्पित रहा वीरभद्र सिंह का सम्पूर्ण जीवनः मुकेश अग्निहोत्री

आधुनिक हिमाचल के निर्माता राजनीति के ऐसे खिलाड़ी थे जो अंतिम पारी तक रहे ‘नॉट आउट’

उप-मुख्यमंत्री मुकेश अग्निहोत्री ने आज शिमला के ऐतिहासिक रिज पर आधुनिक हिमाचल के निर्माता स्वर्गीय वीरभद्र सिंह की प्रतिमा के अनावरण के उपरांत अपने भावपूर्ण संबोधन में कहा कि इस ऐतिहासिक स्थल पर हिमाचल के विकास और स्वाभिमान की प्रतिमा स्थापित हुई है। वीरभद्र सिंह वह शख्सियत थे जिन्होंने आधुनिक हिमाचल को नई दिशा दी और जनभावनाओं को सशक्त बनाया।
श्री अग्निहोत्री ने कहा कि वीरभद्र सिंह राजनीति के ऐसे खिलाड़ी थे जो अंतिम पारी तक ‘नॉट आउट’ रहे। वह एक सच्चे जननायक थे, जिनका जनता से भावनात्मक जुड़ाव था।
उप-मुख्यमंत्री ने कहा कि वीरभद्र सिंह ने हिमाचल के विकास, स्वाभिमान और सामाजिक न्याय के लिए अपना संपूर्ण जीवन समर्पित किया। वरिष्ठ कांग्रेस नेता सोनिया गांधी और प्रियंका गांधी ने इस समारोह में उपस्थित हो कर वीरभद्र सिंह को जो सम्मान दिया है, उसके लिए हम उनका दिल से आभार व्यक्त करते हैं।
वीरभद्र सिंह के योगदान को याद करते हुए श्री अग्निहोत्री ने कहा कि उनके द्वारा शुरू की गई कई योजनाएं आज भी प्रदेश में चल रही हैं। पूर्व प्रधानमंत्री राजीव गांधी के नाम पर शुरू की गई सस्ती राशन योजना, जिसमें दालें, चावल, गेहूं और नमक जैसी वस्तुएं दी जाती थीं, आज भी हिमाचल के हर घर को लाभ पहुंचा रही है।
उन्होंने कहा कि वीरभद्र सिंह की सोच थी कि हिमाचल का पर्यावरण सुरक्षित रहे। इसी सोच के तहत उन्होंने लकड़ी की पेटियों की जगह गत्ते की पेटियों के प्रयोग की शुरुआत की, जो आज भी जारी है। शिक्षा के क्षेत्र में भी उनका योगदान अमूल्य रहा, जिसका अमर्त्य सेन जैसे विद्वानों ने भी अपनी पुस्तकों में उल्लेख किया है।
उप-मुख्यमंत्री ने कहा कि वर्ष 1971 में इसी स्थान पर पूर्व प्रधानमंत्री इंदिरा गांधी जी ने हिमाचल को पूर्ण राज्य का दर्जा दिया था। उन्हें पता था कि यह राज्य वित्तीय रूप से सक्षम नहीं है, फिर भी उन्होंने हिमाचल के लोगों की सामाजिक और राजनीतिक आकांक्षाओं का सम्मान किया।
उन्होंने कहा कि हिमाचल प्रदेश के पहले मुख्यमंत्री डॉ. वाई.एस. परमार ने राज्य की नींव रखी और वीरभद्र सिंह ने उस नींव पर आधुनिक हिमाचल का निर्माण किया। अपने 50 वर्षों से अधिक के राजनीतिक जीवन में उन्होंने 14 चुनाव जीते। उन्होंने 9 बार विधायक, 5 बार सांसद, 6 बार मुख्यमंत्री और 4 बार प्रदेश कांग्रेस अध्यक्ष के रूप में कार्य किया।
उप-मुख्यमंत्री ने कहा कि आज का दिन वीरभद्र सिंह की स्मृति और उनके अद्वितीय योगदान को नमन करने का दिन है। उन्होंने कहा कि ऐसे नेता को ही अमर कहा जा सकता है, जिनके जाने के बाद भी लोग उन्हें याद करें।

Virbhadra Singh was ‘the architect of modern Himachal’ : Deputy Chief Minister

Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri, in his heartfelt address after the unveiling of the statue of the architect of modern Himachal – Shri Virbhadra Singh – at the historic Ridge Ground in Shimla today, said that a symbol of Himachal’s development and self-respect has been established at this historic site. Virbhadra Singh gave a new direction to modern Himachal and empowered public sentiment, said the Chief Minister.
The Deputy Chief Minister stated that Virbhadra Singh dedicated his entire life to the development, self-respect and social justice of Himachal and its people. He expressed heartfelt gratitude to Priyanka Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi for the honour they have bestowed upon Virbhadra Singh by attending the event.
Recalling the contributions of late Virbhadra Singh, Shri Agnihotri said that many of the schemes he initiated are still benefitting the people of the state. He said that the affordable ration scheme launched in the name of Rajiv Gandhi, which provides pulses, rice, wheat and salt, continues to benefit every household in Himachal.
He added that Virbhadra Singh had a vision to protect Himachal’s environment, and as a result he introduced the use of cardboard boxes instead of wooden crates for packaging of apples, a practice that continues even today. His contribution to the field of education was invaluable, noted even by scholars like Amartya Sen in their books.
The Deputy Chief Minister also recalled that in 1971, at this very location, the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi granted full statehood to Himachal Pradesh. He said that even though Indira Gandhi knew the state was newly born and didn’t have enough resources then, she respected the social and political aspirations of the people of Himachal.
He further stated that the foundation of the state was laid by first Chief Minister Dr. Y.S. Parmar, whereas Virbhadra Singh built modern Himachal upon that foundation. In his political career spanning more than 50 years, Virbhadra Singh won 14 elections. He served as an MLA 9 times, as an MP 5 times, as Chief Minister 6 times, and as Himachal Pradesh Congress President 4 times.
Shri Agnihotri said that Virbhadra Singh was a political player who remained ‘not out’ until the last innings. He was a truly a people’s leader, who had a deep emotional connection with the public.
Concluding his address, the Deputy Chief Minister said that today is a day to pay tribute to the memory and unparalleled contributions of Virbhadra Singh. He said that only such leaders can be called immortal, whose legacy continues to live on in the hearts of the people even after they are gone forever.
